We are pleased to announce the next Meetup dedicated to Cloud-Native and Reactive Microservices implementation with Quarkus, Kafka and Kubernetes. Bruno Horta and Roberto Cortez will be our speakers for this event.
Talks will include presentation plus live coding session. The first talk will present how to implement reactive microservices with server-side events and Kafka. The second on building a complete cloud-native microservices based using Quarkus and Kubernetes ecosystem. More details below.
The event is organized jointly with CoimbraJUG, VOID, TICE.Leiria, supported by La Redoute. It will take place at the auditorium of the Mercado Santana in the Center of Leiria, look for the TICE.Leiria rollup and organizers.
The talks will last from 18h30 to 20h30, followed by a cocktail & network space. The event is free and requires inscription on Meetup,

Kafka and Server Events with Quarkus
Apache Kafka has demonstrated to be a powerful stream-processing system, over the last few years it has been optimized. Quarks now have a smooth, simplistic way to integrate Kafka Consumers, Producers, and Streams with almost no line of code to support configuration, allowing the programmer to focus only on the business logic inherent in the problem he is solving.
This session will demonstrate how to consume, process and deliver Kafka messages using Kafka Streams and Reactive Messaging.
Quarkus in Real-World Deployments
Quarkus created quite a buzz in the enterprise Java ecosystem this year. Like all other developers, this session’s speakers were curious about this new technology and saw a lot of potential in it. They dived right in and started using it in one of their new applications. In this session, they show you how to use it to develop a microservice architecture by mixing technologies such as MicroProfile, Camel, InfluxDB, and RabbitMQ and deploy it with GraalVM and Kubernetes. Finally, they present a retrospective about adopting such a new technology, how they code, the main challenges they have faced, how the developer experience compares to other technologies’, what the community is like, and what the weakest points are.

Bruno Horta
Bruno Horta has completed his studies in Software Engineering at the ESTG of the Instituto Politécnico de Leiria. He's a Senior Java Developer at VOID Software, focused on high-performance and distributed applications. He's passionate about developing prototypes within the context of IoT. He is also the founder of "Movimento Maker Portugal".
Roberto Cortez
Passionate Java Developer and Java Champion with more than 10 years of experience. He is involved within the Open Source Community to help other individuals spread the knowledge about Java technologies. He is a regular speaker at conferences like JavaOne, Devoxx, JFokus, and others, leads the Coimbra JUG, JNation conference and enjoys writing blog posts.
