UnIC - Unidade de Investigação Cardiovascular da Faculdade de Medicina do Porto

The Cardiovascular R&D Centre (UnIC) was created in 1994 to fill the gap in translational research of cardiovascular disease. UnIC assembles investigators from several Departments of FM/UP and CHSJ combining basic and clinical sciences to achieve a solid translational and integrative perspective, in a bench-to-bedside-to-bench approach.

Cardiovascular diseases are a highly relevant medical and socio-economic research topic since they are the first cause of death in Portugal and one of the main causes of deterioration in quality of life, particularly amongst the elderly. UnIC, the unique Centre devoted nationwide to this topic, has achieved its goals throughout the past years.

UniC is composed by 122 investigators, 29 of whom are PhDs.
