We are pleased to announce the next meetup on-site dedicated to Data Science application for Crime and Policing !The first talk by Armando Vieira from VOID.software will share the state of the art and applications of Artificial Neural Networks,
We are then happy to count with the foreign speaker Dr. Tom Kitchmaier, sharing on “Data Science in Crime & Policing”,
Both talks will be held in English & the event is organized by VOID Software jointly with TICE.Leiria.
It will take place at the VOID Academy, floor 3 at the Centro Comercial Dom Dinis, 301, Leiria, with an entrance through the parking lot.
The talks will last from 18h30 to 20h00 with a coffee break. The event is free and requires inscription on Meetup,
The number of places is limited to guarantee the distanciation and good organization of the event, please make sure to confirm your presence :)

SPEAKER - Armando Vieira
Experienced Data Science, AI consultant, author and entrepreneur.
He spent more than 20 years teaching, researching and applying Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence in several research areas and industries from Physics to Drug Discovery and Insurance.

SPEAKER - Dr. Tom Kirchmaier
Prof Tom Kirchmaier is an empirical economist / data scientist working on a wide range of issues that are shaping and defining the performance of organisations, with a particular interest in the Economics of Policing and Crime.
Tom is a professor at the Copenhagen Business School, and Visiting Senior Fellow at the Centre for Economic Performance, London School of Economics. Tom strongly believes that we are currently at a managerial inflection point, where technological progress (big data and integrated information technologie) can have a profound impact on how we manage organisations, and gain a better understanding of the cause and things.
Objective foundations of decision making will increase efficiencies, reduce waste, and allow automation of many processes.
TALK - "Neural Networks: state of the art and applications in image and text"
During the last 10 years, neural networks have made remarkable progress: initially their success was restricted to image classification and segmentation but quickly spread to all areas of Artificial Intelligence, from text analysis to reinforcement learning.
The applications are notable, from autonomous vehicles to new drug discovery and conversational agents. In this presentation I will give a brief history of Neural Networks, most notable applications and challenges for the future.
TALK - “Data Science in Crime & Policing”
Police agencies devote vast resources to minimising the time that it takes them to attend the scene of a crime. Despite this, the long-stand consensus is that police response time has no meaningful effect on the likelihood of catching offenders.
Using data science techniques over a rich dataset it is possible to identify causal effects between the police response time and the likelihood of catching offenders.
